Any help identifying the maker’s mark or the age/style/origin of the vase would be greatly appreciated. I bought up on a government estate managed online auction so have no history for the piece. The dragon and frog were part of the same lot...
I think the frog is satsuma ware and a tea caddy?

The frog looks more Chinese to me, no idea what the mark reads. The vase is Satsuma-like, the right part of the mark reads Dai Nippon 大日本, but the left part of the mark is too small and vague to me to decipher. Perhaps a sharp close-up picture can help.
According Gotheborg.com:
Handwritten Dai Nippon marks together with the artist’s signature date to the Meiji Period (1868-1911), reflecting the greatly increased nationalism of that period.

Thanks for the sharp picture of the mark by mail, it reads:
Kanbundo 焕文堂 or 煥文堂 (Hall of Illustrious Literature)

Kanbundo was a Tokyo publishing house active in the early 20th century.
It is a common practice in Japan, China and Korea (perhaps elsewhere in Asia as well) for businesses to give good customers gifts of ceramics, usually inscribed with the firm's
name or logo. This may have been the case with your vase.

The Frog mark is 1980's Chinese

The frog bears the mark of a modern porcelain-ornamentation factory in Hong Kong that produces transfer-decorated wares. The mark reads down and across from the right as "Yi Qian Tang Long Nian Zhi" (義謙堂龍年製), meaning "Made in the year of the Dragon for the Hall of Righteous Modesty (or humility)".

Enter "Year of the Dragon" into the forum search feature on the right, above the beginning of the thread. It'll bring up other queries and answers about this mark.
