Subject:Meji kacho woodblock - unknown artist
Posted By: J. Boussinesq Wed, Jan 31, 2018 IP: 129.74.160.94

Dear All,

I am trying to determine the artist for a Meiji (almost certainly) woodblock print, reproduced below with magnified signature and seal. Neither seal nor signature are familiar to me, though perhaps they should be. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Signature and seal in my reading,
鴨石 - Ǒseki
Inscription on the right side fringe,
武蔵野第五 - Musashino No.5
(Musashino -む佐し野 "variant kana mixed writting")
Musashino; name of region on the Kanto plain
I have spent quite long time to find out something
about the artist without any result.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Dear I. Nagy,

As always, thank you for the reading. I have found a little bit more, but not a lot. Musashino was published in 1894 by artist Oseki Tanaka as a 12 part months of the year-type set. A link to 11 of the images is found below. However, I have not been able to find any additional information on the set so far and nothing more by Oseki Tanaka, who does not appear in my references. Perhaps someone on this forum may have additional information.
