Subject:Yixing Zisha Teapot?
Posted By: David B Sun, Jan 28, 2018 IP: 2600:100f:b000:87a6:

I picked this teapot up at a thrift store, and have since dug around various resources trying to find out anything about it to no avail. Any information about age, whether handmade or manufactured, any information about the seal on the bottom, what sort of tea it was designed for, etc. would be very much appreciated. When the lid is brushed against the body, the sound is quite high pitched.

Thanks so much!

Even though I can't make out th seal at this time I suggest this is not YiXing Zisha at all but a Japanese teapot.

The lid show clear evidence of having been turned on a wheel, whereas YiXing pots are slab build. (YouTube has some great pictures of the YiXing pot making).

The domed strainer inside the pot is also a more Japanese finishing touch. Nice pot, probably for green tea.

Thanks so much! I’ve been reading up a little more on the subject, and there is a faint, but visible line on the outside of the body of the pot below the spout, which (I think??) indicates a slab built pot? If the body were slab built, would that change your assessment of likely Japanese origin?
