Subject:Japenese figurine mark and age help
Posted By: John Alden Tue, Jan 23, 2018 IP: 2607:fb90:8129:a561: Hi was wondering how old this elongated forhead child figure was and if it had any value or is more of a decorative import piece. Thanks in advance |

Posted By: Bill H Wed, Jan 24, 2018 You have what appears to be a circa third quarter, 20th century Kutani image of the good luck samurai Fukusukesan. Here are some circa 1920 images of him, still Japanese but with the Chinese Qing Dynasty "Tianqi reign mark that literally reads "Heavenly Revelation". I've read somewhere that Fukusukesan was originally a commercial mascot/emblem whose reputation for bringing good fortune gained a life of its own. |
