Subject:Help identifying Japanese print...Shunsho?
Posted By: Jaime Tue, Jan 23, 2018 IP: 2605:e000:1314:4b9:d

Hello:

Can anyone help me identify this print (artist, time period, title, etc.)? I was told it was by Shunsho but am having doubts as the signature doesn't seem to match up. Many thanks and have a wonderful day!

The signature is Shunsho. If it is a Shunsho print, it is a repro. I suspect your print was inspired (derivative of) this Shunsho print at the Boston MFA:

http://www.mfa.org/collections/object/actors-ichikawa-danj%C3%BBr%C3%B4-v-and-segawa-kikunoj%C3%B4-iii-232054

The female role looks about the same, but the male role is different.

Cheers,
Stan
