Subject:Follow Up to Scroll by Inoue Chikuitsu (井上竹逸)
Posted By: Allen Tue, Jan 02, 2018 IP: 2601:983:8000:15b:0:

Hello,
I wanted to follow up with I.Nagy or anyone else that may have information on the artist Inoue Chikuitsu. I would like to gather any information I can on him regarding his career, where he lived and worked, examples of his work, etc. If anyone has any information to share with me, or references to point me to for my research, I would be most grateful. Many thanks in advance.

Thank you m for all of the information. I had seen the one site you had noted, but not the other, this is very interesting. I am trying to figure out what exactly the Japanese Culture In The Meiji Era link is saying about him. I see his name listed, and looks to be part of music-dance-music or dance coordinator? Do you have any insight on this? I will do more searching, thanks again for your help!

Here is the result of my search on Inoue Chikuitsu
(井上竹逸)1814-1886
Chikuitsu (竹逸) was his art-name,
Real name: Inoue Reitoku (井上令徳)
Popular name: Genzo (玄蔵)

Inherited the samurai status under the Tokugawa Shogunate, was a retainer of daimyo Kajikawa Yozobei. Learned arts and warriors` techniques. Went
to Nagasaki to obtain knowledge about Western fire-weapons from Takashima Shuhan.
Later became painter disciple at Tani Buncho and Watanabe Kazan. He painted mostly landscapes.

That is all about him what I have found in the
largest Japanese painters identification dictionary。(日本書画鑑定大辞典 10 vols 2006)

With regards,
I.Nagy
