Subject:Chicken cage?

I bought this at the auction to cage my newly hatched chicks. However I am curious to what it was used for originally.

It is 3.5 foot in length, 2 foot deep and four feet high. The front and back match each other and the "bars" are wood. Two sliding doors on each side (in the middle) with old handmade hardware. So a rabbit or any other gnawing animal would not be kept in there. I believe there was a different roofing material like thatch. The sides having carvings and overall it looks like some time and effort were put into it.

So, I am going to use it for the hatchlings but I am still curious what is was used for. Any info is appreciated. Rich
