Subject:Reproduction / original Kiyokata Kaburaki ?
Posted By: Jacob Sat, Dec 02, 2017 IP: 86.120.26.60

Hello,

I am trying to find out if there is any chance that this painting could be a version of the famous painting by Kiyokata Woman at Akashi-chô, Tsukiji. I am speaking about another version made by Kiyokata itself ! I can tell 100% that its a painting, so not a print of any kind. I checked it under microscope. A friend told me the seal reads Kōgei. Is that true ? It also has a seal on the back (please see photo nr.3). I very interested to find out your opinion. Could this be a genuine painting by Kiyokata or its a reproduction after his work made by someone else ? Thank you very much !

The picture, no doubt, is a trimmed version of Kaburaki Kiyokata`s
Woman at Akashi-cho,Tsukiji.
The picture itself is a collotype multicolor printed
replica made by Otsuka Art Company, before WWII. The company was founded in 1929, until now, about 130 artist`s cca 500
artworks have been collo printed.
Seal reads,
巧藝 Kōgei (Art)
Printing on the back reads,
巧藝画 Kōgei-ga - Art Picture

大塚巧藝社 Otsuka Kogeisha (Left side illegible)

With regards,
I.Nagy
