Subject:Eggshell porcelain Chinese cup
Posted By: Martin Michels Wed, Nov 29, 2017 IP: 84.26.216.123

A couple of years ago I bought this Chinese cup.
It is the thinnest and lightest porcelain cup I have ever encountered. Even thinner than the Japanese eggshell porcelain cups in my collection.
The mark is Qianlong Nian Zhi, but I don't think it's from that period. It looks hand painted and the dragons have claws with 5 toes, as you can see.

Has anyone an idea about age or period?
Thanks in advance,
Martin

Dear Mr Michaels

This object has been transfer printed with the colours added by hand. Transfer printing did not exist in Chinese porcelain before about 1925. Also, eggshell porcelain did not exist in China before the same era. Therefore this object is modern.

Kind regards
J.Lim
