Subject:Help to Identify Gilt Satsuma Plate
Posted By: CV Tue, Nov 07, 2017 IP: 109.77.214.51

I am ashamed to say I had this little tea plate hanging on the wall because it's near perfect condition (tiny gilt loss in edges) made it too good to let go or use.

However, having a good google to try and identify that stunning procession vase lead me to another, very similar (not identical) item, so it is down off the wall for good...

See url, I am thinking it is probably "inspired by" though.

The bottom mark reads: 内田 "Uchida" (Upside down)
It can be a product of Uchida, Sarayama-yaki Kamamoto
(Pottery) (Amakusa) Kumamoto Prefecture.
Accrding to the scarce info on Google (Jap. lang.)
the pottery was founded in 1673 and closed long ago.
(no date given)
(Reopend in 1972)

Thank you I.Nagy - believe this must have been made since 1972.

It must be a much more older piece, from the pre-closure times of the kiln. I try to find out the closure time - Please give me time.
With regards,
I.Nagy
