Subject:Mystery Textile-framed
Posted By: ramsey Sat, Oct 14, 2017 IP: 96.241.220.4

Purchased this framed textile at an estate sale a few months ago and wonder if anyone recognizes origin and/or use. I have not removed from frame but measures 15" total and inner square about 9". Appears to be of recent production. It reminds me of Hmong but then again unlike others I have seen. Thanks, Ramsey

It looks like it could be Cham as well. Maybe another possibility for consideration. The size is a little different than what I've seen. Nice pattern, looks nice in a frame

Hi Ramsey
I think you should look at the textiles of the turkomen in Afghanistan. These seem to be fragments that have been joined together ,rather than one item. The center is chain stich ( or possibly ladder stitch )embroidery that you often see on young boys clothing and the woven border is typical of shawls etc.
Regards
Sue
