Subject:Need help with inscription and seal on brush pot
Posted By: Jesse V Sat, Sep 02, 2017 IP: 173.18.74.108

I would like to know what the inscription says and if it is dated. From research, I think the red seal on the base reads Hu Yuan Xin Zao, and would like that confirmed if possible.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Inscription reads,
漁樵待利 Fisherman and woodcutter both are waiting for profit
x二水之x x two of water x
(I can't decipher the first and last characters)
胡名玉出品 Produced by Hu Mingyuan
According to Chinese sites he was a famous painter in early republic era)
Bottom mark reads correctly,
胡海鑫造 Hu Haixin Zao (Zao is made)
Could have been late Qing or early Republic maker.
I hope somebody can give you more expertise details about this maker.
With regards,

Nagy,

I see where I misread "Hai" as ""Yuan". Thank tou for the correction.

I am also thankful for your translation of the inscription. I think the character after "water" (Ren) looks like "dragon" (Chen) when comparing to a Gotheborg chart, making the date 1892.

I will wait for others opinions about its age.

I can not find anything about the artist you suggested, but am content have learn more about the piece. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge.

Highest Regards,

Jesse V
