Subject:Japanese Marks on Vase
Posted By: Adie Mon, Aug 28, 2017 IP:

Hi guys

I have a pair of Japanese vases and would like some help in identifying the marks. I think they are early 1900s from Arita region.

many thanks

The marks on both vases spell: Kinkozan 金光山 Asano 浅野 Zo 造 (Made by Asano for Kinkozan), Satsuma-like ware from the 1920's.
I have a pair of vases with the same signature and one of these has carved on the bottom ring: Made in Japan, which in most cases dates it 1921 or later.

This is Satsuma (soft paste earthenware), not Arita (hard paste porcelain), and likely from the Kyoto area. It is decorated in a Moriaga style relief. I would think it was made sometime between early and mid-20th Century.
