Subject:Are these antique famille rose? and help with mark?
Posted By: Brett Fri, Jun 23, 2017 IP: 69.117.76.255

I picked these up from a church sale. The bowl is beautiful and very large. Probably around 16" in diameter. No mark, but it looks like old porcelain. The cups were sold separate from the lids, but I could tell they were meant to go together. The cups have a wax mark on the lid which I assume is an export approval mark. Does this mean they are not old? I would guess 19th century. They are all marked but the only legible mark is pictured below. So, a few questions. 1. Would these be famille rose? 2. What does the mark on the cups say, and what is their real age? 3. What would you guess is the age of the bowl? Thanks for any help, I appreciate it, as always.

I am posting a close up of the export seal. It has no English numbers on it unlike the ones on gotheborg. The tag looks like it has a date from the 1920's which predates the date in 1949? when they started using export seals.

The bowl is painted in what collectors call the "mandarin palette". It was made for export and dates from c.1780-1800. Due to its large size, it is actually quite valuable.

The large bowl is stunning but looked somehow *wrong* to me for 19th century Famille Rose, so I did a little checking and this 18th century bowl is so similar it must have come from the same workshop, if not the same potter.

The bowl looks to be late Qianlong period (176-s-1780s) export and the bowls are later. Impressive size on the bowl.

Wow, thanks, that's good news to me. I searched around and I found another one listed as 18c. on 1stdibs that was also very similar. After posting this I went back to the sale and purchased another one that was there. I ended up getting the second one for half price, but it has a big chip on the rim. Any thoughts on this one?
