Subject:Identifying Satsuma mark on bowl
Posted By: Martin Michels Wed, Jun 07, 2017 IP: 84.26.216.123

Can anyone give a little help in identifying a part of the mark of this beautiful Japanese Satsuma bowl?
I know that on the left it says Satsuma Yaki 薩摩焼, but I'm lost of what's written on the right.
The top character is most probably: Kin 金.
The character in the middle: Su or Sui or Mizu 水.
And the bottom character: the closest I get is 掌 (Sho ?), but my character is not exactly the character in the mark, which I can't find as is.

So what is the correct name? Kinsuisho ? Or is it something else? Need some more experienced help (Guy, Bill H, Mikeoz, anyone?).
Thanks in advance.
Martin.

堂 hall

Whoever wrote the character added an extra stroke. Easy enough to do, particularly when working on very small spaces.

Apart from that, you've got the whole message.

Martin,

I'm not at home and have no access to Japanese fonts but I read the last character as 'dô' so the name must be 'Kinsuidô'.

Guy.

Guy, Mikeoz,

This is a typical "Oh yes of course" moment.
I learn so much from you guys and this forum.
I really appreciate your replies, thanks a lot.
Martin.
