The mark is written in Chinese seal characters, but on a Japanese seal of Inoue Ryosai, potter of the Sumida Gawa kiln, which was active from about the 1870's until the start of World War II, according to the book "Sumida According to Us", by Herbert Karp & Gardner Pond.
