Subject:Small plate, black overglaze marks and carved underglaze marks
Posted By: Cimage Sun, Apr 16, 2017 IP: 62.4.227.73

Hello every one,

Got this small plate, 19 cm of diameter. Signed on the back... but I can't manage to read it. It doesn't seem to be a known one maybe some artist? Could anyone help read it please...?

There's an overglaze mark in black and there are two marks carved underglaze...

The last character is "En" 園 (garden), which is more a (work)shop or studio instead of an artist name. No idea about the first 2 characters.
Regards,
Martin.

I'm also at a loss as to what the written mark says, but the impressed one is that of Seiji Kaisha, a porcelain company formed in Japan circa the mid 1870's with Fukagawa family participation. However, this plate looks like it probably is more like circa 1900. There are several previous threads you can query using the forum search feature; also, gotheborg.com has related information accessible via their link to Japanese marks.

Best regards,

Bill H.
