Subject:What can you tell me about this piece, I am very new to collecting.

So I found this at a thrift store the other day and I just couldn't put it down.

I have never seen any piece of porcelain as intricate as this.

The portrait looks almost like water-color but it was fired onto the porcelain.

It also has some nippon-looking dotted enamel in places?

Is this Chinese? Japanese?

Can anybody tell me what the markings say on the bottom?

Hi Jesse

This is Kutani ware, Meiji Period circa 1900.
The mark is "Oda Sei" (made by Oda).

This is a Japanese chocolate pot in a palette that suggests origins in the Kutani area. The first character of the mark, which variously is shown upside down and on its side, possibly reads down as "Made by Oda" (Oda Sei - 織田製), but this reading needs to be verified.
