Subject:what was this used for, and is it Chinese or Japanese?
Posted By: Helmia Tue, Apr 02, 2024 IP: 2a00:23c6:9f8b:9401: I have this pottery cup , measures 6.5cms high 7cms across base, it is gilt and enamel decorated. I can't find anything similar online and wonder if anyone can tell me about it, what it would have been used for. I was told possibly a saki cup? Or if Chinese what was its use? Also I am wondering what the bird motif signifies if anything. It has a slight crackleware finish. Thank you. |

Posted By: Robert Mon, Apr 08, 2024 Hi. It is Japanese Satsuma ware made for export in the late 19th to early 20th century. Could be a little flowerpot or a match holder. |
