Subject:Painting on silk
Posted By: Roger Fri, Apr 26, 2024 IP: 105.4.5.252

My grandmother acquired this watercolour on silk in or about 1960. It's a watercolour on silk of a wisteria twig.

Is it junk for tourists or does it have real artistic merit? If it's real art can you tell anything about the artist?

The picture is framed reverse. It is allways a challenge to read reverse calligraphy, so the risk of misreading is also higher.
Here is my reading:
槐山人寫於澄心堂
Painted by Huaishanren (Hermit of Huaishan Mountain)
at the Chengxin-tang (Hall of Clear Heart)
Seal,
槐 Huai

Huai is a family name that is spliced with a shanren suffix, which is a combination of surname and art-name.
Unidentifiable

With regards,
I.Nagy
