Subject:Japanese Satsuma Moriage Vase
Posted By: Daisyreigh Tue, Nov 13, 2012 IP: 31.68.4.184

I'm a newbie but hopefully I have at least got the description of the vase correct - 'Japanese Satsuma Moriage Vase'. As usual, I need help with the identification of the artist and period the vase was made. I believe the circle and cross above the double lined gold seal is the Crest belonging to the Shimazo Family who ruled Satsuma. Would this vase be made in the Meiji period (1868-1912)? I am struggling with the rest of the mark/stamp. Anyone with any idea's. Thanks for your time.

The mark under the Satsuma Shimazu crest reads 'Fûzan' but this is no Meiji period item but rather mass produced export ware in the Satsuma style, dating from the early Showa era (1925-89)- but pre WW-II.
