Posted By: John Tue, Oct 19, 2010 IP: 219.74.45.4 My mother has this Chinese ink painting of a horse. This painting was bought around 1950s in China. The wordings indicates a name "Bei Hong". Please help to identify the history of this painting. Thanks |

Posted By: rat Wed, Oct 20, 2010 approximately 15,634 paintings are signed as being by Xu Beihong. Unfortunately for greedy and aspiring collectors, only a small fraction of them are genuine. this one is not. |

Posted By: mikeoz Wed, Oct 20, 2010 Please check the lable on the outside edge when rolled up. This is likely to be printed rather than hand written. This piece looks like a quite high quality woodblock print from a studio such as RongBaoZhai in Beijing. They are sometimes very hard to tell from an original artwork. |

Posted By: John Wed, Oct 20, 2010 Thanks for your advice. But how you can tell the difference? Is it the handwriting or the stamp? |

Posted By: rat Thu, Oct 21, 2010 John, if the piece is a Rongbaozhai (or other such) print, there will be a red seal with the publisher's name below the title on the label. |
