Subject:Help ID Beautiful Asian Vase with Lizard Handles
Posted By: Mill Thu, Oct 22, 2009 IP: 24.147.128.153

My elderly neighbor was going to put this into a garage sale. I do not have any real knowledge of Asian Art but this seemed much nicer than the modern imports that I see in retails stores so I asked him if I could do some resarch before he sells it. It appears to be all hand painted. There are raised slip decorations and some gold beading. The lizard shaped handles are quite large. The piece is approximately 16 inches tall and 8 inches wide. I was told this shape is called a Moon Flask but I'm not sure if this is correct. I have no idea which Country this may be from. I would hate to see him sell it for pennies if it has any value. Any help for ID and possible value would be greatly apprecited. 2 Thank you.

This is a modern vase with only decorative value sort of inspired by Japanese Satsuma style.

Beautiful! Does she know any history behind it? You are right, it may have some value. I certainly would love to have it myself.

If there are any local antique shops they might be able to take a look at it and at least let you know if it is worth pursuing further.

Just remember, it takes a bit for responses to show here so be patient.

If she is interested in selling it fairly cheap I would love to have the chance to own it. Let me know. I am in the Vancouver, Washington area.
