Been considering making a purchase, but they are asking a pretty penny for this piece. I thought it would be a good idea to solicit comments and advise from the "hive-mind".

No such thing as 'Apollo' traditional Chinese iconography.

Especially not thousand years before that deity invented in Mediterranean.

This new object probably 'worth' less than shipping cost. If you like its look, fine to pay whatever you wish for decoration, but is not ancient, antique or 'old' and does not depict anything in East Asian tradition.

Might be molded resin not stone carving.

Fake! what kind of burial environment make jade look like that? Nuclear waste plant?

Dyed and acid treatment then polished smooth, finally applied with Vaseline petroleum jelly to shine luster.

There is a fake jade dealer on the net who bought a few bucks non-jade to sell 10 grands as "jade" as "authentic", he uses cheap table cloth like that for the background.

Hongshan jade is a myth, rare and impossible to find, the best you can fulfill your fantasy is buying nice copies in "truck load" from Alibaba.com and you may look at the sky then shout out loud "possible Hongshan Culture"!!!!

I remembered seeing an HS figurine in a book somewhere in a similar style... thought maybe I hit the jack-pot!

As per Anita's message, I checked out alibaba.com. What an eye-opener! Had no idea there is so much demand to justify so many wholesaler's!

While it may be easy to tell or say what is not Hongshan, it will be quite difficult to say what really is Hongshan. It seems everybody has their own different opinions.

We can post an excavated authentic Hongshan jade piece here, half the people may call it fake while other half may believe it can be genuine.

Before you will invest any more money in any Hongshan jades, you better make sure you know what you are doing, it may be much better off to just acquire some nice Qing dynasty Hetian jade carvings.

If someone try to trade/sell/exchange his unwanted Hongshan jade fakes to your money or one of your jade collection or other stuffs, please beware and do not "trust" anyone.

Collecting antique Chinese jade is very very difficult with hard work on identifying real from millions of factory fakes. You must study hard, otherwise you will be a dead meat for a vulture on the net...take a deep breath, read books and go to museums first.

Hongshan jade does not exist!!!!..pls do not buy it.

That is a very interesting statement, because if I recalled correctly the person who made this statement did post a "genuine" Hongshan jade carving owned by her here not too long ago and might have already sold it to another collector.

The problem is, there is absolutely no guarantee that any Hongshan jades you purchase, no matter how expensive they may be, or from any reputable dealers, can be proved 100% authentic.
