Subject:Old Cicada
Posted By: Tim Sun, Jul 13, 2008 IP: 71.198.103.15

This cicada was past down to me through my mother's grandfather. I'm not sure where he got it from and am waiting to hear when my mother got it from him.

Anyone want to venture a guess from what period it's from?

Tim, you have to understand that knowledgable People in this forum do not buy stories, nor do they look at certificates, they just look at the items which are sent in.They might advise, but if you want courses, I suggest that you check with some expert who is willing to teach.
Back to your cicadas, they are of recent manufacture.

I am not convinced this cicada is old because the carving lines found on it does not look like they were made with manual tu. However, it does look quite nice and if it is from your grandpa then it should be "priceless". Therefore you should just enjoy it. Good luck.

The dimensions are:

L - 2.5"
W - 1 3/8"
H - 7/16"

I am unable to weigh this.

Thanks!

Tim,

While there may be several members of this forum who would be regarded as old (as reference). The concept of old jade pieces in this forum would cover centuries. Your Cicada was made with mechanical tools not hand tools of old. But using a chronological human age as reference, it could be considered old.

Jim
