Posted By: didier Mon, Jun 30, 2008 IP: 82.66.55.62

Does anyone has any idea about the origin of this wood buddha head?
I think it could be thai, but i am not absolutely sure.
Thanks in advance for your opinion.

Dear Didier

20th century Mandalay style, Myanmar, beautiful proportion, possibly teak wood.

Have fun

Dear Anita Mui
Thanks for your quick response.
I think you are right but i first discard this possibility because such beautiful proportions are, as far as i know, uncommon in burmese sculpture.
I find on it 2 very small particle of gold,so i think it was one day covered by gold leaf, as usual in this country
It could not be teck, it's extremely damaged by insects (on the back). That's why i thought also it could be older.

Sometimes even maker nice piece think have to add fakery.

Insect damage can be faked. Try stick thin needle in holes, if go straight in holes could be drilled. Insects not go straight line!

Good luck,
Cal
