Description:
|
The upper part shows the goddess of dance, Nrtesvari,
in different forms.
In strut A the goddess is standing on a deer. She wears an
anklet with small bells.
The goddess of strut B is standing on a lotus. She wears broad
belled anklets around her calves.
The lower parts of the struts show a sitting god respectively (unidentifiable).
In strut B he makes the gesture abhaya mudra with his
right hand.
These struts are difficult to date, but they may be from the 16th
century or later. The garland pattern around the goddesses thighs
came up in the 16th century ...may be quite early (12th - 14th c.?)
or they may be reproductions of the original early struts, made earlier
this century. |

Building
Date:
|
The early (14th c.?) historical resthouse was lost in
1998 when it was rebuilt, incorporating 2 of the original struts.
A city inventory records a later (17th c.) date, probably recalling
a rebuilding. (Kathmandu City Inventory, p.346
By: His Majesty's Government of Nepal. Ministry of Housing and Physical
Development. Kathmandu, 1982.) |
