Netsuke group of mushrooms
An early 19th century boxwood netsuke carved as a group of five mushrooms. Excellent detailed carving with naturalistic, well balanced shape and textures. Slight erotic connotation, as is usual with mushrooms in Japanese art. Signed "Tadayoshi" in ukibori. The artist was the most celebrated of the Nagoya school carvers and earned the title of Hogen.
