Empress Tree
6 7/8 inches x 13 ¼ inches
Watercolor and graphite on paper
Signature date: 7.19.04

Branches culled from a Chinese Empress Tree at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens support a network of fragile webs. A surreal landscape is created by a discordant superimposition of scales, where the delicate interiors enlarge to overwhelm and capture the otherwise more powerful forms of the pods themselves.
