Taking a rest from prostrating the kora of the Jokhang Temple
May 1993

Only advancing to where their fingers reach when lying flat, these men performed hundreds of prostrations in order to complete the one-kilometer kora around the Jokhang each morning in months of intense worship. The wood paddles, leather aprons and tire strips protect them from the stone path, although the small wounds on their forehead bear testimony to the completion of each prostration.
