Documenting Myanmar: an exhibition exploring Burmese photographic documents

CHARBON Art Space
8/F Sing Tek Factory, 44 Wong Chuk Hang,
Aberdeen, Hong Kong
Mar 09, 2018 To Mar 24, 2018

Detail: Mixing artworks and photo reportages by today’s most engaged and famous artists and photojournalists of Myanmar, this exhibition explores the status of photographic documents in the making of history and in the building of a collective identity.

Curated by Caroline Ha Thuc, it combines photojournalism and art in an attempt to deepen and enlarge the debate that is currently mainly focused on the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar, taking on board the recent events in all their historical significance.

Minzayar Oo, a well known Burmese photojournalist, artist Mayco Naing, and Christophe Loviny, founder of the Yangon Photo Festival, will come from Yangon for the opening.

On Saturday March 10, at 4pm, Christophe will give a lecture entitled 'The visual story-tellers, actors of change in Myanmar', followed by a panel discussion with him and photo-journalist Minzayar Oo, moderated by Caroline Ha Thuc.

A programme of screening, in collaboration with the Burmese Wathann Festival, and a lecture by Ian Holliday is also organized on March 14 & 21.

The exhibition is a non-commercial event benefiting MyMe, a Burmese association dedicated to children education.
