Conference/Symposium - USA & Canada |
Detail: Come and share with architectural historian Dr. James Glass, as he describes the rich and unexpected variety of architecture in China. Over 3,500 years an advanced form of timber construction took shape in China and was refined to an exquisite degree. Inventive buildings in brick and stone also made their mark, and some of the most splendid cities in the world were laid out and awed visitors. Traditional architecture in China means cities, palaces, walls, residences, temples, altars, and gardens. It also means sculpture, painting, and water. We will also touch on the impact of Western architecture in China and recent Modern architecture. The lecture will end with some illustrations of how Chinese architecture has influenced the United States.
