Detail: Náprstek Museum of Asian, African and American cultures presents an exhibition dedicated to Tibet and Tibetan culture. Over three hundred items from the museum’s collections will be on show, and not only from Central Tibet, but also from the wider area of influence of the Tibetan culture.
The exhibition presents the history of Tibet from the second half of the first millennium CE to the present. It relates the main historical events, important figures and basic concepts of Tibetan culture. In addition to splendid temple paintings and ritual objects, there will also be interesting sacred folk art. Among the most significant exhibits are an 18th century Tibetan Buddha painting, a portrait of a high-ranking monk from the Summer Palace of the Manchu Qing Dynasty Emperors, and a beautifully decorated gilded statue of the goddess Tara.
