Detail: Active in China and France, both sculptor and painter, Pan Yuliang is a pioneer figure of Chinese art of the modern period.

Born at the end of the 19th century, it was the end of the imperial period and began its artistic career in the cosmopolitan Shanghai of 1920 before winning Paris, responding to the imperative modernization of the arts which animated many young artists of its generation. On her return to China in 1928, she actively participated in a cultural scene marked by the refounding of art education. His second visit to France, from the end of the 1930s until his death in 1977, was marked by a journey farther from the artistic institutions which was accompanied by the creation of a very personal work, centered around a few Themes: the female nude, the couple, childhood.
