Japanese Art from a German private collection

Auctionata
Franklinstrasse 13,
Berlin, Germany
Mar 22, 2017

Detail: In this auction Auctionata is honored to present an outstanding selection of Japanese art works from an important German private collection. The collection of rare tea ceramics has been exhibited and published for the most part. Beside the highly sought-after Oribe Ware, like a rare large sake bottle from the early 17th century, the auction offers pottery from the Mino kilns and Karatsu ware which had been influenced by Korean traditions.

The exceptional range of works in this collection gives also evidence of the renewal of Japanese pottery traditions during the first decades of the 20th century by famous studio ceramists like Tomimoto Kenkichi and Kato Tokurō. The highly individual collection is complemented by tea utensils like Kōro, Natsume and dishes for the Kaiseki meal. The splendid selection of Japanese paintings from the 16th to the 20th centuries includes works in the neo-traditional Nihonga style, like a work by the eminent painter Domoto Inshō, making this auction a unique chance for the collector.
