I'm pleased to announce the second edition of CULTURES - BRUSSELS which will be held from 7 to 11 June.

Sculptures from India, Nepal, Tibet will be exhibited along with tangkas, illuminations, ritual objects and central asian artworks and textiles. Among sculptures are notable a 14th century Tara, Nepal, an early Manjushri of 9th century, Nepal, and a Buddha Shakyamuni, 14th century, Tibet, of excellent aesthetic qualities. From India, a stone sculpture of Ardanarishvara, Kushan, 3d-4th century, rarely represented in that period. From Gandhara regions, an Avalokitesvara, finely carved, will be on show, along with central asian artworks which include a group of gold and gilt silver repoussé representing mythical animals, 7th-9th century. This plaques belong to the period of tibetan domination of the central asian commercial roads, and, possibly, they were ornaments on fabric or nailed to a wooden object. A large, impressive loess head of a bearded man, possibly Hercules, circa 6th century, denotes the persistence of greek models in the regions of their former domain. Textiles on show will include large samite fragments, a tunic with good colors, 8th century, and a pair of boots, Khitan, 10th century, of refined workmanship.

The Fair's cultural program, ARTCONNOISSEURS, will present an excellent cycle of lectures on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 June. Informations on www.asianartinbrussels.com.
