Mongolian Offering-Tsakli
Mongolian
20 x 8.5 cm
Tsakli Painted on Mongolian-Cardboard, Surface is not Glazed
Mid-19th To Early 20th Century

There are eight types of food offering at the top, in the main frame of the tsakli we find offerings of gers, tiger skins, birds, a suit of armor, all of which are observed by animals who are themselves part of the offering. This cardboard replica stands-in for the real thing. The recipient is probably intended to be Dra Lha, an armored protector deity who is often depicted accompanied by his eight brothers.
