Section with the story of the historical Buddha

A large central buddha figure sitting in padmāsana (lotus position or meditation) is the host of the story of the historical Buddha. He makes the dharmacakra mudrā, or the "turning of the wheel of the Law" gesture, which symbolizes the first sermon of the Buddha after his enlightenment.

Beneath this large gilded figure unfolds the life story of Sakyamuni, beginning with his descent from the Tusita heaven, on the far left.
