2. Dish - Karatsu
Glazed ceramic (Karatsu) with lacquer repair
D: 4 6/8 in (12.2 cm), H: 1 1/8 in (2.8 cm)
Rice-straw ash glaze was applied to this bowl, then combed to form wavy lines encircling the interior, a classic Karatsu decorative approach. The mending employed lacquer to reassemble the bowl with ceramic fragments from several different bowls, called yobitsugi, “borrowed patches.”
