Mughal ivory? |
Posted By: Tim Posted Date: Nov 21, 2015 (08:09 AM) |
Message Nearly all Mughal style paintings on ivory are Indian rather than Persian, from the late 19th c. into the 20th c., and of value in the $50 to $500 range. A few examples from early in the 19th c. with good painting can bring in the thousands of dollars. However, works on paper from the 16-18th c. are what bring the big $$$$. Yours is of good subject matter, a tiger hunt, and okay quality. Probably 19th c., but the age is not as important as the quality of the painting. I just recently reviewed a few very fine examples of this style of work. Not the same subject matter, but you can compare and decide for yourself how your piece ranks. |
