Re: The age of this snuff bottle? |
Posted By: Stan Posted Date: Apr 17, 2013 (09:32 PM) |
Message Mike, I am not an expert so take this with a grain of salt. I think the snuff bottle is made of glass and fairly new, certainly 20th century or later. I base this on the slapdash decoration of the body of the bottle. The cuts are crudely done and poorly finished. We have a number of snuff bottles of materials that are harder than glass (quartz, carnelian, jade, jadeite) where the workmanship is noticeably better. Plus, the decoration looks modern. I can't explain that more than to say it is a gut feeling. Further, the shape looks more decorative than useful. It doesn't look like the spoon can be very long given the angles involved from the cap into the bottle. Cheers, Stan Post a Response |
