Re: Seeking provenance and info on antique Chinese Ivory Figure |
Posted By: Bill H Posted Date: Feb 03, 2011 (12:52 AM) |
Message I have a figural ivory with similar characteristics of carving and color. It appears to be the Japanese Longevity God Juroujin. Yours may be an elder or ancestral figure. Judging from wear on the stand glued to mine, I'd guess it to date to around the Taisho period (circa 1912-26 ). I can't see a mark on mine and defer to others as to how your mark should be rendered in proper Japanese. Best regards, Bill H. |
