Not true jade (nephrite) |
Posted By: Anita Mui Posted Date: Sep 05, 2007 (07:32 AM) |
Message Dear Christine Possibly not true jade (nephrite or jadite), it looks like soap stone to me. Pls do hardness test by using unsharp tip of the needle to scratch on the hidden part to avoid leaving a mark (in case it is not true jade). ------------------------------------ SHOU-LAO (God Of Longevity) Also known as "SHOU-HSING, NAN-JI-XIAN-WENG" holding his cane with immortal symbols like, a peach, branch of peach, Buddha's Hand citron..etc which are referred to the elixir of life. He also come with bat, the symbol of long living, and children which are the symbol of fertility. Shou Lao with single gourd, double gourd with is a symbol of fertility due to its many seeds. The name "Shou Lao" translates into: long life "shou" + old "lao"...so the fact that he is the god of long life and old age makes sense doesn't it? In the back is an engraved Chinese character "shou" (longevity, not an artist's signature. FYI Best regards Anita Mui Post a Response |
