Thank you for the clarification. I am hoping to see if anyone can produce other examples of his work for further comparison.
As for the age, I think the piece is of the period. There is no way to be sure the plaque was not placed into an older frame, but the wood, and hardware look correct for circa 1930's (not artificially aged like the modern repros).
As for the differences in brushwork, with only one example to compare I am hesitant to draw any conclusion regarding authenticity. I agree, the hands on the figure in my plaque are not well done, but in the plaque that sold at auction, the foot is also poorly rendered and has the same chubby disproportional look.
Also, consider this...
To my knowledge, the more famous artist Wang Qi has only gained high acclaim in the past 10 years, and copies of his work seem to have been produced during this recent period.
The less famous Xiong has gained recognition during this same period, so it stands to reason that copies of his works should also originate from the past 10 years or so.
Based upon the enamels and surface wear, I am certain it is not modern, but whether or not the piece is of the artist...well, let's find a few more examples for comparison if available.
