Message It is very difficult to decide what they were made of from your pictures. They look more like quartz to me than jadeite but they can be made of jadeite, only a specific gravity test can tell for sure. (It is hard to do an accurate S.G. test on tiny beads like these though). Since quartz has almost the same MOH hardness of jadeite (both about 7), therefore a scratch test will not tell you anything. A gemstone tester is actually quite worthless in confirming jadeite. You did not do too bad though if you only paid $1 for it, whether it was made of jadeite or quartz. If they are indeed jadeite, but in such light translucent color, your necklace will be worth a few dollars but nothing to get too excited because most people especially would probably not wear such a necklace.
