Message Hello Richard, Yes and no.......... Your very nice lidded pot is Japanese indeed but not Satsuma (Satsuma is crackled earthenware) but Kutani porcelain. The right row of Characters reads "Kaga no kuni" wich means it was made in Kaga han wich is nowdays called Kanazawa. When your grandmother bought the piece it was probably new so we can date it to the Meiji period. Regards, Arjan Post a Response |
