Sketch of restored Yayoi elevated
storehouse as seen in Shizuoka Prefecture.
The storehouses were raised off the ground to protect from pests, and were
made of
planks that overlapped at the corners. This building form represents the earliest
ancestor of the
elevated Shinto shrine and the azekura zukuri (storage chambers).
